How GLP-1s Work

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) weight loss treatments are named after the hormone receptor they stimulate. When injected or taken orally, GLP-1s increase insulin production and reduce your feeling of hunger.

When combined with diet and exercise, GLP-1 weight loss treatments can help you succeed on your weight loss journey.

There are different types of GLP-1 treatments so it is best to discuss your options with a provider to find the right one for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, semaglutide is a prescription-only medication. A medical professional such as a physician or physician assistant must prescribe it for patients following a comprehensive exam.

Semaglutide is a base ingredient medication that is also available under the brand names of Ozempic and Wegovy. At Northwest Face & Body, we administer a compounded version of semaglutide that also contains Vitamin B which helps reduce the two most common side effects, fatigue and nausea in most patients. This compounded version of semaglutide contains the same active ingredient as Wegovy and Ozempic.

It depends. For the average patient, one or two drinks on an occasional basis will likely not have a major effect. However, if a patient has diabetes or a history of low blood sugar, they should not drink alcohol while taking semaglutide.

The risk that alcohol poses when used with semaglutide is severely low blood sugar which can become a medical emergency. Some patients are at higher risk of this than others. Patients are encouraged to discuss this with their providers and what to do if they experience symptoms of low blood sugar.

While both can help remove fat from the body, the goals of each procedure are different. Liposuction aims to help sculpt the body and bring out the natural tone of the body. It often accompanies surgeries such as tummy tucks. Semaglutide is meant for much larger weight loss. In comparison, liposuction removes a fraction of the fat that semaglutide can help patients lose.

With that said, at some point in the weight loss process, a patient may seek out cosmetic surgery to remove extra skin and smooth their overall body contours. However, between liposuction and semaglutide, one is not a replacement for the other.

The answer to this question is normally a personal one for each patient. If it is safe for a patient to take semaglutide and it would help them lower their body weight and potentially improve overall health, it will likely be worth it. If a patient doesn’t make lifestyle changes with semaglutide, they might regain the weight they lost. Each patient can discuss their goals with their provider to help determine if semaglutide is worth it for them.

Northwest Face & Body offers a monthly supply of semaglutide weight loss to Bellevue patients at the following cost:

  • $575 per month for injection with supplies (includes one month’s supply of alcohol pads and syringes)
  • $700 per month for oral tablet
  • $199 plus the cost of the prescription if you go with the Pharmacy plan

Included in the above pricing are an accompanying diet and exercise plan and monthly check-ins conducted in-person or virtually to best accommodate the patient. The diet and exercise plan are optional, but highly encouraged to enhance results and promote longer lasting weight loss.

Patients can purchase more than a month’s supply at a time. However, this will increase the cost. Patients can receive pricing for purchasing semaglutide in advance at a consultation appointment.

As far as we know, insurance does not cover semaglutide for weight loss. Thus, Northwest Face & Body does not accept insurance for this procedure.
